Narragansett United – U12
Program
- The
Narragansett United soccer program will begin in early December and continue
until mid June. Players will train and compete according to the parameters of
their specific program. Training and competition will be age appropriate with
a particular focus on the player’s ability with a ball and their decision
making.
-
Narragansett United sees player development as a succession of phases with
each becoming more finite as the player’s role as an individual and member of
a team becomes more distinct. U12 is the middle of the first phase of a soccer
player’s experience outside of the traditional fall season. The program is
designed to give players and their parents a better understanding of what year
round soccer should offer as it progresses from the youth player to the
adolescent player.
Coaching
- Coaches
will come from a number of backgrounds with the commonality of focusing on
developing a player to the best of their ability.
- All
coaches will be licensed by the United States Soccer Federation or certified
by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Training
- Teams
will train twice per week for one hour each night.
-
Training topics will focus on continuing to develop player ability with a
ball.
- The
techniques of dribbling, receiving, passing, shooting and 1v1 defending will
be practiced regularly.
- Coaches
will use a variety of activities to demonstrate age appropriate application of
all learned techniques through out the year.
- Tactics
will be developed using a 4v4 format with attention to team shape, decisions
of the player with a ball at their feet, decisions of the player in support of
the ball, as well as the decisions for the player defending the ball and
covering the player defending the ball.
- Age
appropriate attention to systems of play will be discussed as it applies to
8v8 competition.
Competition
- During
the winter months players will compete once per week against local teams for
one hour.
- All
teams will be entered in the club hosted Christmas Week Indoor Tournament.
- All
competition will be age appropriate; teams will not be playing up an age group
unless asked to do so in the case of a tournament bracket not having enough
teams to have a single age group competition.
- In
addition to the Christmas Week indoor tournament U12 teams will participate in
one outdoor tournament, the Soccer Maine sponsored Pine Tree League and the
Soccer Maine sponsored State Cup.
